Or a referral from another specialist, which lasts 3 months.

The referring doctor will need to describe the condition for which your child is being referred.

You will need a new referral if your child is an existing patient with a new problem or condition.

Before making an appointment, see your GP and discuss the reasons why you would like a referral to a Paediatrician. Alternatively, your GP may have suggested that you see me because they have some questions or concerns about your child.

Either way, it is best to have a written referral from your GP that you can fax through, or bring on the day of your Paediatrician appointment. I am still happy to see you without a referral, but you will not be able to get a Medicare Rebate without a referral.

Some Paediatrician referrals are generic, so you can choose any Paediatrician. Your GP or family doctor might ask for my name and address, you can find my details on the Contact Page

• a copy of your referral letter including the contact details of the doctor making the referral.
• your child’s Medicare number including the expiry date and “person number”.

Bring these documents and cards with you when you come for your appointment.

• a copy of your referral letter
• your child’s Medicare card
• your child’s infant health record or Green Book, and any other information on their growth and development
• previous health records, X-rays, blood test results or other test results from your GP, family doctor or other health providers that you have seen. It will save a lot of time on the day if you can arrange for X-rays and blood test results to be sent to Dr Michaela Murray before your child’s appointment.
• any other information relevant to the current condition that might be helpful

For school aged children please also bring:

• school reports, school assessment results and any other information that might be helpful
• any available psychology or cognitive assessments.

For any behavioural or language problems:

• if you have any videos on your phone of your child’s problem behaviour or speech difficulties, please bring them along. Often a child won’t display the problem behaviour in front of a doctor, so videos can be helpful.

A well baby check or 6-8 week check up is usually 30 minutes.

Subsequent appointments are usually 30 minutes unless more time is requested. When making your appointment, please tell my receptionist if you need more time to work through a complicated issue.

Please contact my receptionist at least 24 hours before your appointment if you need to reschedule, or if you are unable to attend.

Cancellation fees may apply if a patient misses their appointment without notifying us in advance.
